paperIs Google getting overpowered?

Google When Robert Massa, the owner of a small Web company called Search King, decided to sue Google in 2002 after the search engine lowered his site's ranking, he knew the move wasn't going to win him any friends online. Back then Google was worshipped by practically everyone on the Web; not only did the search engine produce the finest results, but the company that ran it was also regarded as modest and affable, a refreshing thing in the tech industry. Massa was right: People immediately started saying nasty things to him. "'They ought to wipe you out of business.' 'They should sue you!' -- that kind of thing," Massa recalls. "It's scary that those kinds of people are sitting out on the Internet." via Salon

paperBeware of the Panther

Apple CEO Steve Jobs took the stage Monday at WWDC 2003 in San Francisco, ushering in a new era of 64-bit desktop computing. Jobs offered developers a first look at Apple's upcoming release of Mac OS X version 10.3, code-named "Panther" and put to rest a myriad of rumors and speculation with the introduction of the Power Mac G5. Based on the 64-bit PowerPC 970 processor from IBM, the G5 desktop features a 1 GHz front-side bus. - via Betanews.

Somehow Apple is able to design desire for me. Now that I've sold my last Macs (iBook 500 and eMac 800) also because I found them to lame Steve Jobs comes up with this hell of a machine. But there is quite an amount of pocket money needed to fulfill your dreams. Another reason for switching back for me was the handling of OS X. Of course it's a beauty in terms of it's designed UI but as the 'advanced' user that I am there where also many features that I couldn't stand missing. But reading the Sneak Preview of Panther makes me courious about what kind of tuning Apple gave to the OS.

paperCommand line: $ whereis mymind

I'm back from the little Summer Break and now slowly booting into 'normal'. It's a hard task on a Monday morning and so large amounts of coffee are needed to keep the little admin awake. What happened? FUN! Listening to a wide range of acoustic chocolate, from Coldplay via Turbonegro to Underworld at the Hurricane Hotel Lounge.

paperSummer Break

I know Opera Journal has just started... but after a hard time of research, investigation, designing and sleepless nights the Journal staff has earned themself a little break. This evening I'll check in at the Hurricane Hotel and enjoy three days of total wellness, relaxation and massages. As the location is rather exclusive there won't be any internet and thus the Journal is not going to be updated untill Monday morning. I hope I'll be able to give you a brief report about Opera Journal's Summer Break then.

In the meantime I've added three new avatars to the avatar section. Have a good time!

paperMy beloved Opera feature

From time to time I'll introduce some of my favourite Opera features which make life a bit easyer. Today's feature is my most favourite one. Since previous Opera versions I often had the desire to have a kind of 'Go To URL' function. If you search Google for 'Elvis' for example you get tons of links like elvis.com/disco/60s/kissmequick... But assuming I only want to know something about his discography I'll have a smart option to go there now. I simply mark the link until elvis.com/disco/ and chose 'Go To URL' from the rightclick menue. If the disco directory has an index site I'll be able to go where I wanted to go. If not - I'll try another one.

And if you are a curious person like me you can use this function also to check if someone who has send you an email has an own website. Go to the mail header and simply mark the domain after the (at) sign and chose

Go To URL

paperNew language files for Opera 7.11 for Linux

Opera has released 14 language files for Opera 7.11 for Linux. These files will change the language of the user interface, but do not include the help files, or the tip of the day. Generally, the version numbers on your browser and language module should match. If you choose to use an earlier version of a languge file with a newer version of an Opera for Linux browser, you can expect that some of the menus won't translate.

Talking about Linux let me just mention that I have started creating forum avatars for My.Opera. You can have a look here for a preview and feel free to use them. An own avatar section on Opera Journal will soon be available.

paper Invitation to Opera Journal!

After having some trouble with my provider Friday, 13 th seemed to be a good date to welcome you to the preview version of the Opera Journal. To find out what's the story read ahead and enjoy. It's nice you have come here.

The Opera Journal will feature regular news about all Opera related topics and some other things like netlife, web standards, skins, icons, cool applications... The Journal will also try to look behind the scenes and get stories about the people behind Opera. I'll be hopefully able to tickle out some interesting info and present you some background articles in the future.

In order to be able to deliver always nice and fresh news the Opera Journal is looking for some authors to join. There is no need for beeing a professional journalist. Just let me know if you have special topics which you would prefer writing about. Joining the team is remarkably easy. Send an email to me -> jenne@operajournal.com and I'll reply as soon as possible. Looking forward to hear from you!

Some questions and answers: Why is the Opera Journal looking so bad? This is due to insufficient support of PNG transparency of your browser. An already long time missing feature of the Internet Explorer. There are many more reasons for giving the fastest browser on earth (aka Opera) a try. Some of them will be featured in future articles. Why is your English so bad? This is to keep you away from falling asleep. Any spelling mistake is made on purpose ;-) and won't be corrected until you tell me. Why are you wasting your time with the Opera Journal? O.K. there are already many journals out there. But I wanted to find a way to contribute something to the Opera community. And via the journal I'll be also able to inform you about my latest skins.

There is more to come. So stay tuned!
